Indications : Clamoxin
is an antibiotic in the class of drugs
called penicillins. Amoxicillin and
clavulanate potassium fights bacteria in
the body. Clamoxin is used to treat many
different types of bacterial infections,
such as sinusitis, pneumonia, ear
infections, bronchitis, urinary tract
infections, and infections of the skin.
Description: Amoxycillin is still a versatile and relatively
well tolerated antibiotic. Compared to
penicillin it is advantageous because of
its broader range. When used alone,
amoxycillin is better tolerated than co-trimoxazole.
In combination with clavulanic acid (Augmentin)
however, it causes more adverse effects.
The combination is not effective against
all ß-lactamase producing bacteria (e.g.
Enterobacter), causes many side-effects
(diarrhea), and is very expensive.
